Marketplace Art Booth
I was recently invited to set up shop at Design & Consign Indoor Marketplace in Newport News, VA in the Historic Hilton area. I sketched out a booth plan (see next pic) and gave it to my handy husband who constructed my joyful booth. I wanted the vibe to feel like a garden in the spring, because that’s what I always paint. I bought an 8ftx6ft fence panel from someone on Offer up. We cut the panel across the middle horizontally and used the bottom for the “picket” fence at the base and the other half we used for the awning. The sides have white lattice and the backing board are three 2ftx4ft peg boards. I chose to paint a gradient on the awning so it wouldn’t feel so heavy.
I used a stencil to outline the hand-painted sign that rests atop as well. The booth is loaded with cards, prints and even a small selection of earrings for customers to collect. I love my little bright booth at Design and Consign Marketplace. The staff are so friendly and the owner is easy to work with. They have made me feel so welcome and grateful to be a part of their vendor community.

For those of you considering working with them or any consignment shop: I currently pay $45 per month for a 6ftx9ftx1.5ft space. I pay a commission of 15% on all sales. Keep in mind, I signed my contract in July of 2023 so rates could change and vary by location in the store, inflation and size of your space.
Updated: July 31, 2024 - I have closed my booth at Design & Consign Marketplace to focus more on creating original artwork rather than spreading myself so thin with multiple engagements, events and locations.
